Antique Art Deco Watchchain Fancy Link Necklace 14k

$2,300.00

Antique Art Deco watchchain with solid, slender bar links alternating with delicate oval links. The two-toned gold, white, and coppery rose gold is unusual and visually rich. The rectangular prism bar links are thoughtfully decorated with a carved rope pattern, which adds texture and a gleam when it catches the light. This watchchain can be worn as a bracelet if your wrist is medium to large. The chain has a weighty feel, and its sizable bolt ring clasp and dog clip make it very wearable with charms and pendants. It can also be easily extended by adding other chains.

During the 19th century, a watchchain was a wardrobe staple in men’s attire, connecting a pocket watch tucked in a waistcoat or vest pocket to one of its buttons. These chains were available in different gold purities, but 9ct was the most common. The style of the links also varied, from very simple curb links to much more elaborate ‘fancy’ links. With the evolution of fashion, watch chains eventually became obsolete for men, but women began wearing them as necklaces, often layered with several chains of different lengths and showcasing pendants, charms, and lockets as personal expressions of style.
