Antique Victorian Sapphire and Diamond Double Serpent Ring
This antique diamond and sapphire snake ring, in 18k yellow gold, is a quintessential Victorian piece. It comprises two snakes entwined, with a sparkly white Old Cut diamond and a bright blue sapphire snugly flush set into the heads of the rather endearing looking snakes.
The serpent has many symbolic associations through various civilizations, but the one that we often turn to in jewelry is the meaning of love and eternity said to be symbolized in the emerald set serpent ring that Prince Albert gifted Queen Victoria in 1840. Sentimental jewelry became popularized during the Victorian era, and the serpent ring took on many iterations.
The ring has acquired a rich golden patina over the years. The ring sits low on the finger, making it a very comfortable everyday ring.
In excellent antique condition. Lightly cleaned and ready to wear. The box is for display only and is not included in the purchase.
