Rare Antique Victorian Diamond Wreath Pendant

$2,650.00

This rare jewel, dating to c.1898, is a late Victorian era (1837-1901) pendant comprising Rose and Old Mine cut diamonds. The 93 high quality diamonds dazzle in this decorative, open design pendant of a crown and an anchor encircled in a laurel wreath. The fine beads on the laurel wreath and the rolled platinum wire are some of the enchanting details to admire. Crafted in 12 carat gold and platinum, its extremely fine craftsmanship is an exemplar of jeweler’s art.

One of the many alluring qualities of antique jewelry is the symbolism that it can convey. Victorians were particularly fond of this idea. For example, the crown is said to symbolize power and status, while the anchor is associated with hope and faith. The laurel can have a range of meanings, including immortality and eternity. Given that the pendant’s laurel leaf comes to a full circle around the crown and the anchor, the symbolism of eternity does seem to fit very well here. Or perhaps the pendant has other ways it wants to be read, and that’s the beauty and the mystery behind this pendant.

In excellent antique condition. Lightly cleaned and ready to wear. Box for display only and not included in the ring purchase.
