Rare Antique Victorian Pendant, Old Mine Diamonds and Guilloche Enamel

$1,950.00

This rare jewel, dating to c.1895, is a Victorian era (1837-1901) pendant comprising gorgeous Old Mine diamonds and guilloche enamel in a design that is highly ornamental and carefully crafted. The contrast between the colors, the glistening white diamonds against the rich cobalt blue, as well as the texture of the gems juxtaposed against the smooth, glossy surface of the enamel, is beautiful. The triangular bale is just as pretty as the pendant, and is, in itself, a miniature jewel. Crafted in 15 carat gold, a gold purity used only in Britain between 1854 and1932, it has developed a deep and rich patina over the years. 15 carat gold was typically reserved for higher quality jewelry.

The swirl is an ancient motif that symbolizes the spiritual journey experienced through the cyclical nature of existence. Many early cultures adopted this motif to incorporate into architecture and embellish objects.
