Vintage Art Nouveau Style Synthetic Pink Spinel Ring

$1,150.00

Gorgeous faceting creates a fascinating optical prism in this stunning ring. Bezel set, the 12ct coppery rose gold complements the beautiful peachy rose pink of the synthetic spinel. Carved scrolls and foliate relief over ribbed borders are a whimsical touch that echoes the spirit of Art Nouveau. It’s a sensational statement ring.

For those interested in hallmarks, this ring features fascinating stamps on the outer band. It was made in the 1970s in the Soviet Union and stamped ‘583,’ a common gold purity used in the USSR during that period. There is also an additional stamp, ‘P’, the Russian letter corresponding to the English letter R. ‘P’ represents the Baltic city of Riga, the capital of Latvia. Latvia was part of the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1991.

Riga, the capital of Latvia, is renowned for having the highest concentration of Art Nouveau architecture in the world. Its economic boom and population growth in the turn of the 20th century coincided with the Art Nouveau movement, inspiring builders to incorporate the prevalent style of the period. Riga celebrated its 700-year anniversary in 1901 with a special exhibition showcasing the achievements of its industry and crafts. Art Nouveau design featured prominently in many aspects of the exhibition.

In excellent vintage condition, showing wear consistent with age and use. Gently cleaned and ready to wear. The ring box is for display only and is not included in the purchase.
